Information
Many career paths exist within the aviation
industry. For those individuals aspiring
to begin their post-graduate career as
a pilot it is important to research all
potential employment sites. Hiring requirements
with the airlines and corporate flight
departments vary greatly and have a tendency
to fluctuate, depending on the status
of the industry.
Upon completion of your Bachelor of
Science in Aviation degree at the University
of Oklahoma students typically have accumulated
between 250-300 hours of total time,
ten hours of multi-engine time, and five
hours of turbine time.
While these hours
are not enough to get you hired with
a major airline, they are a great start
and will make it possible for you to
seek employment as a certified flight
instructor. Instructing is the most
common way students gain additional flight
time and secure their first aviation
related job.
For more extensive information relating
to the creation of an aviation resume,
potential career paths, how to prepare
for an interview within the aviation
industry and other helpful information
related to internships and landing the
job of your dreams, the Aviation Department
has a Student Resource Room in Westheimer
Airport and offers a Career Development
for Aviation course, Avia 3013.
Getting
a college degree is just the beginning
of what it takes to be successful;
students are encouraged to utilize all
resources available to them through the
University of Oklahoma Aviation Department.
